Canva has a lot going for it, but cute fonts? Not so many. If you've gone looking for something truly adorable in the Canva font library, you've probably been a little disappointed.

In this post I'll show you the cutest fonts Canva does have, but I'll also show you some much cuter options from Creative Fabrica that you can download for free and upload to Canva yourself. I'll walk you through how to do that too.

If you're new here, I'm a neurodivergent creative who writes about digital design, making money from hobbies, and building a business that works for your brain. Welcome!

What Makes a Font Cute?

Cute fonts tend to have rounded edges, playful shapes, and a generally friendly feel. Handwritten and whimsical styles often fall into this category too. Think fonts that feel warm rather than formal, approachable rather than serious.

Cute Handwritten Fonts and Naive-Looking Fonts

Handwritten fonts add a personal touch that makes designs feel warm and a little imperfect in a good way. Look for fonts with a natural flow and a touch of whimsy. They work really well for greeting cards, invitations, and social media posts.

Fonts with a naive or childlike appearance work similarly. Simple shapes, uncomplicated lines, a slightly wobbly feel. These are great for projects aimed at a younger audience, or any time you want something that feels lighthearted. Just always make sure readability isn't being sacrificed for cuteness!

Examples of cute Canva fonts in handwritten and naive style:

To be honest, I was a little disappointed by how few genuinely cute fonts Canva has. The graphic below shows the best ones I found. It's a decent starting point, but if you want something really special, you'll need to bring your own fonts in, which I'll show you how to do in a moment.

Fonts included: Bakerie, Alice's cake shop, Railey, Moonlight, One little font, Cretina, Jelly Cream, Pecita and Gamma Flower. You may use this graphic as long as you link to this article.

Cute decorative fonts and fonts you can add yourself

Decorative fonts are the ones with little extra details, hearts, stars, swirls, that kind of thing. They're perfect for headers or titles where you really want something to stand out. Just use them sparingly, since they lose their charm quickly if overused.

Canva's selection here is even thinner. The only ones I found worth mentioning are Nickainley and Carlsons Script. But the good news is that you can add your own fonts to Canva, and that's where things get a lot more interesting.

On Creative Fabrica you'll find lots of these types of fonts (but also clipart, backgrounds, mockups etc), and if you sign up for the free trial period, you get any 10 downloads for free. But they also have lots of both permanent freebies and freebies of the week.

Here are some examples (links underneath), and you can see how to upload fonts to Canva in the last segment of this blog post.

The best part is that all their fonts come with a commercial license, so if you make stuff you want to sell, that's no problem! I've written a blog post where you can find more information about this, and I also show you some examples of cute fonts that are (or have been) available for free. I have the all-access subscription, as it gives me unlimited downloads of everything I want for just $59 a year. The best part is that commercial licenses are always included when you have the subscription.

Upload Your Own Fonts to Canva

If you're looking to add a personal touch or have a specific cute font in mind, you can easily upload your own fonts to Canva (this option is not available with the free plan). This feature allows you to seamlessly integrate custom fonts into your designs, giving you endless possibilities for creativity. Read Canva's terms here, to learn more about upload formats and requirements under the font section. Here's how you do it:

  1. Open the type of file you want to make a design in

  2. Click on text

  3. Select "Add a subtitle" (or any other text)

  4. Click on fonts, and click on "upload a font" on the very bottom of the fonts list

  5. Choose the font you want and upload it

*Upload at your own discretion, but make sure the fonts are actually licensed for commercial use. Creative Fabrica's term's might change, so especially when you download fonts from the free trial and other freebies, double check the licensing.
